Carma Needs a Home

Carma came into WHVCA rescue by way of a young couple that were struggling both financially and physically. The young man had been attacked and stabbed many times on a street in California and later moved to Georgia with family.

Before leaving CA, a friend bought him a puppy to keep him company. The puppy, Carma, became his constant companion as he went through over a year of physical therapy.  A few years later, Carma became pregnant by a neighbor dog. At the same time, the man lost his job and ended up living in his car with Carma. She had 12 puppies in the back seat of the car, losing 5 of them.
He got in touch with our Rescue after realizing that he could not care for Carma and her newborn puppies properly. She was taken into rescue along with her puppies, spent some time in our foster care and all of them found homes.

Carma went to a home in Texas with one of her puppies, but has had trouble adjusting to being with multiple dogs, feeling the need to boss around the other dogs in the household.
We feel Carma needs a home where she is the only dog, or maybe with a submissive other dog. She is a sweetheart and is very healthy! Let us know if you feel you might be the forever home Carma needs!

This is Carma right after her rescue, dreadfully thin.
Her pups were only five days old when they came into our rescue; here they are at 4 weeks of age & eating solid food.

In our GA foster home, Carma's health improved and she put on much needed weight. She has been spayed and is up to date on her shots.

In 2003, WHVCA Rescue was created in response to several WHV or possible WHVs in shelters. As a rare breed, they don't turn up in shelters often, although occasionally a dog is relinquished to WHVCA by the owner. The WHVCA defines a "rescue" as a WHV from various types of shelters, a stray, an abandoned dog, or a dog whose owners can no longer care for it. WHVCA Rescue is dedicated to the welfare of such Wirehaired Vizslas. Rescue program workers are volunteers, and give their time, effort, expertise, and often their own resources to help WHV in need. WHV Rescue is supported entirely by donations. We always appreciate donations of funds, supplies, and services.

Dogs in the rescue program are spayed, neutered, and temperament tested before placement into a new home. In addition, all applicants wishing to adopt through the rescue program are carefully screened by experienced Rescue volunteers (vizsla owners, breeders, and trainers). A detailed questionnaire, interview process and home check are all part of this screening process.

If you are familiar with this wonderful breed and think that adopting a dog through rescue might be an option or if you know of a WHV in need, please contact us.
